Terms of service

Local Link gives programs on your computer a public URL at <app>.<you>.local.link. By logging in with lnk auth login or running a tunnel through local.link, you agree to these terms. Local Link is a free beta, invite-only for now, and may change or stop at any time.

Your account

• You log in with GitHub. Your Local Link username is your GitHub username.
• lnk auth login saves a token on your machine. Keep it secret: anyone with it can run tunnels as you. Run lnk auth logout on machines you stop using.
• You are responsible for everything served under your name.

What you may not do

Don't use Local Link to:

• break the law, or serve content you don't have the right to share;
• phish, impersonate other people or services, or collect other people's passwords;
• distribute malware, run command-and-control servers, or send spam;
• attack, scan or overload other systems, or run an open proxy for other people's traffic;
• get around Local Link's limits, or interfere with the service or other users' tunnels;
• serve anything that sexually exploits children.

We may disconnect tunnels, block accounts or remove access at any time, without notice, when we believe these rules are being broken or the service is at risk.

What you expose

A tunnel makes a program on your computer reachable by anyone with its URL. You decide what to expose and are responsible for it. Use lnk tunnel open --auth user:password to require a password, and don't expose anything you wouldn't put on the internet. Your content stays yours.

Privacy — what Local Link stores

• Your account: your GitHub username and numeric id, the name of each machine you logged in from, and its token. Local Link never receives or stores your GitHub password or a GitHub token.
• While a tunnel is connected: its name, the address your machine connects from, your lnk version and a request count. These are held in memory and gone when you disconnect.
• Traffic through your tunnels passes through Local Link's server in memory on its way to your machine and back. It is not stored, and requests, responses, headers and visitors' addresses are not logged. Passwords set with --auth are kept in memory only while the tunnel is connected. Visitors' addresses are held in memory for up to a day to limit password guessing.
• Server logs record when tunnels connect and disconnect and when people log in, with the username.
• Backups of account data are encrypted before they leave the server.

Local Link doesn't sell or share this data, and uses no ads or trackers.

No warranty

Local Link is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, and may be unavailable or lose data. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any damages from using it or not being able to.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use Local Link means you accept it. Report abuse (please include the URL) or ask anything at dev@local.link.
