Black-tailed Jackrabbit Lepus californicus

A large hare with long ears and a black-edged tail adapted to open desert and scrub; primarily crepuscular and feeds on grasses and shrubs. It is common on open flats and is a key prey species for park predators.

Note the very long ears, hind legs, and black-edged tail; when startled they run in a straight, fast line rather than zigzagging like some rabbits.
